Directions
to Trailhead
From HWY 395 in Lone Pine:
Take HWY 178 east. After driving for 52.6
miles, turn right onto the paved road that is signed "Wildrose".
You'll soon reach a junction with the northbound Emigrant Canyon
Road after 8.8 miles. Proceedings east from the junction follow
the Emigrant Cyn. Rd., a narrow paved road as it climbs into
the broad valley of Wildrose Canyon. You will see a sign for
the Wildrose Campground. The Charcoal Kilns and the trailhead
are 6 to 7 miles up the canyon. The pavement runs out after
5 miles and a somewhat rocky road (4-wheel drive is not required)
will be the final leg of your journey to the Kilns. Park in
the wide turnout on your right and cross the dirt road to pick
up the trail.
SPECIAL
NOTE:
Because of it's remote location, whenever
traveling in Death Valley Nat'L Park be sure your car is in
good running condition. Always carry extra water, food and blankets
in the event you have car trouble. Stay with your car till you
are able to flag someone passing by for help.
